Lindström introduced the Nordics’ first towel-folding robot
Comforta, a subsidiary of Lindström Oy, has modernised its service centre in Jyväskylä, Finland, making it one of the most advanced hotel textile service centres in the country. The facility’s capacity has increased by 50%, allowing it to support over 5 million hotel stays annually. The new energy-efficient equipment has halved energy consumption, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Following an almost complete overhaul, the Jyväskylä service centre is now one of Finland’s most technologically advanced facilities for hotel textiles. It is the second-largest in the country by capacity, after Comforta’s centre in Vantaa, but even more modern in terms of technology.
It is also the first in the entire Nordic region to implement a towel-folding robot, which significantly accelerates work processes. The new technology also enables heat recovery, further reducing environmental impact.
“From Jyväskylä, we serve customers in Central Finland, Ostrobothnia, and Eastern Finland. These upgrades equip us with better capabilities to meet the needs of the hotel industry,” says Jussi Leskinen, Comforta’s Chief Operating Officer. “The increased automation also improves product finishing and consistency. In addition, it enhances workplace ergonomics by reducing manual tasks.”
The Jyväskylä service centre has been in operation since 1966 and currently employs 57 people. “Lindström has always aimed to keep services close to its customers and invest in local areas. The service centre is well-positioned near Jyväskylä city centre and close to commercial and industrial hubs. Over the years, the building has been expanded gradually, and it was now time to modernise the production equipment. While relocating was an option, remaining near the city centre proved to be the better overall choice. This led to the decision of comprehensive renovation of the facility,” Leskinen explains.
Comforta Oy is a fully owned subsidiary of the Lindström Group. It specialises in textile services for hotels, restaurants, and healthcare providers and employs over 500 people across its operations.
